Shirt Size Guide
Here at Gieves and Hawkes we have three shirt fittings to cater for different body shapes:
- Athletic Fit – For a more defined body shape, or if you prefer a closer fitting shirt around the body.
- Classic Fit – For a fuller-fitting shirt
- Casual Fit - A relaxed style that can be worn by classic and athletic body shapes - the fit on your body sits between our Classic and Athletic shapes.
How to find your shirt size
You'll find this easier if someone helps you to take your measurements.
.jpg)
Neck size
Measure this first because your neck size will be the same whichever shirt fit you choose.
Run a tape measure around your neck but keep two fingers underneath the tape to allow for easy breathing.
Chest
Find your favourite fitting shirt and then measure the chest from seam to seam, 2.5cm below where the arm meets the body. Waist Measure your middle just above your hip bones (your natural waist), not where your trousers sit.
Sleeve length
We think you'll definitely need help for this one: Ask someone to measure from the centre of your neck at the back, across your shoulder and down your slightly bent arm, to where you want the cuff hem to sit.

Bow Ties
We offer two types of bow tie:
Pre-Tied - these are bow ties which are already tied
Self -Tied – to be hand tied by the wearer
To find your neck size:
Run a measuring tape around your neck but keep two fingers underneath the tape to allow for easy breathing.
The width of the ends of our bow ties range from a slim 5cm to a classic 9cm to create completely different looks.
Ties
Our ties are all the same length but they can be tied in many different ways. The half and full ‘Windsor' and ‘four in hand' are very popular knot styles.
The width of the ‘blade' (the widest end) of our ties range from a slim 7.5cm to a classic 9cm to create completely different looks.
Footwear
The easiest way to find your footwear size is to stand on a piece of paper and ask someone to draw round both of your feet. Step off the paper and measure the distance between the line at the back of your heel and the tip of your big toe. Add 1cm or 3/8 of an inch to allow for movement.
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other - ensure both feet are comfortable by choosing shoes that fit your larger foot. Use our conversion chart to find your footwear size. All of our footwear is sold in UK sizes:
